I've always enjoyed baking. In fact, one of my favorite days of the year is "cookie day," during the holiday season when I get to spend the day in the kitchen baking up batches of various cookies to package up as gifts for my family and friends.
In 2012, I decided to expand my baking skills and took a Wilton cake decorating class through my local Parks & Rec. In the months following, I made cakes for every family birthday and event for practice. Soon after that, my friends started asking me to make cakes for their kids birthday parties. Seeing the excitement on those kids faces when I arrived with the cake got me hooked. I've spent the years since elevating my design techniques and perfecting my recipes - and now I'm looking forward to delivering smiles to your next event with the perfect cake. I established Cakes By HollyK as a Cottage Food Operation (CFO), which is a state law that allows people like me to start a food business from a home kitchen, without the expenses of renting commercial space. The savings is passed down to my customers, since I have less overhead than a brick-and-mortar bakery. CFO's are regulated by state and local health departments. You can learn more about them here.
